The Space In Between
by Jen Minkman
Before I start this review, let me remind you that this is the forth book I read by Jen Minkman. She gave me her ebook for an honest review and I'm really honored and happy she did. I love reviewing a book such as this one because it is so easy to love and talk about how much I enjoyed reading it. Jen had me liking her book just by the blurb and the cover. So I expected to love the inside too and I was not disappointed ! There is a lot of things I loved but here is what you need to know :
« When Moira helps out her sister and brother in a Wiccan ritual on Halloween, the last thing she expects is to be swept away to a mystical wilderness. Sitting within the stones of the ancient circle of Penmaenmawr, Wales, she's convinced it's an illusion. But the dark-haired, handsome man with amnesia that Moira meets during her trance cannot be blinked away like a dream.
Hayko, the mysterious stranger, won’t let go. After returning home from her stone circle adventure, Moira is beckoned back night after night to the outlandish dreamland by an invisible force. But the hardest part isn't having to fight the terrifying creatures of these nightmares--it's realizing she’s falling for a guy without a past who isn’t real.
What if you really can fall in love with the man of your dreams? »
Moira is an art student who lives in Penmaenmawr, in Wales. She has a job at a hotel and enjoys writing songs, listening to music, painting and spending time with her brother Dai and her wiccan sister Tabby. Moira has also a best friend, Holly, who is also Dai's girlfriend. She suffers from ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and because her boyfriend Patrick insisted and advised her, she has to take pills to help her « live with it ».
After the ritual that made her meet Hayko in The Land Outside Of Time, she slowly starts to understand things about her life. When we meet her at the begining of the novel, she seems a bit lost and not really herself. I felt like she was torn between what she should do according to her boyfriend who she truly loves, and what she needs and really wants. I see Moira as a true and deep character which I found easy to care for. I felt close to her and I have to admit I'm surprised. Besides our love for arts and writing, we don't have much in common. She's not the one telling the story and I was afraid that I wouldn't appreciate as much as I was supposed to. But this is where Jen is also talented. Because I got to know and love Moira as if she was a friend. The writing is powerful and full of strong emotions. I shed a few tears and laughed a lot while reading Moira and Hayko' story. These two characters are awesome and perfect for each other. Their love story is unforgettable ! The journey they have to get through together is moving. I could never truly guess how it would end for them.
And as I previoulsy told you, one of the things I found great about The Space in Between is the writing. There are two narrative voices that makes the reading interesting and intense. The reader kind of jumps between worlds and time himself too. I loved it very much ! Not to mention the scenery or the feelings beautifully written. As in The Island series, I was amazed.
I also got fascinated by this universe brought to us by Jen. I let you discover it by yourself. I just can tell you it made me think of Ancient Egypt or Greece but it also sounded brand new. I had no knowledge about the Armenian culture or religion so it was really satisfaying to know a little bit more about it. And of course, I think it's brilliant and clever to set a love story in this universe. I quickly gave up my habit to try to know the end in advance. That's what I usually do with any book. Unconsciously, I look for clues and think as the writer may have thought while writing the story. But here, I just couldn't guess how it would end. I just hoped that it would be a happy ending or something that would deserve a fully 5 stars. And it did ! I won't say more about it ! Just know that I enjoyed every word of it !
To finish, I think you really need to read The Space in Between ! It's a very well written paranormal romance. You will love the caracters and the setting because it's not USA, it changes and it's a good thing. I have to go to Wales someday ! Speaking of culture, you will be surprised and captivated by the universe of this book. Of course, I highly recommand you to read Jen Minkman's books and share your thoughts with her or me. The next book I will read by Jen will be The Boy From The Woods. I'm sure I will review this novel with pleasure !
Have a good read !
